SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

Welcome parents of PS62,

Our first PTA meeting of the year was a success.  We had over 80 parents in attendance. It was the largest turn out we have seen in years and we thank each and every one of you that showed up.  Our team did not have a lot of time to prepare for our first meeting.  But I have to say that I am very proud of them.

This is my first year in the PTA and as the PTA President.  I have a child in 2nd grade and have been a volunteer for 3 years.  My team consists of 6 members in total. Our Vice President Justine Matos, who has a granddaughter in 1st grade and has been a part of PS62 for 2 years. Our Treasurer is Melanie Ramadhin. She has been a part of the PTA for 2 years now. She has 2 kids at PS62.  Her youngest is in Kindergarten and eldest is in 4th grade. She has an administrative and bookkeeping background.  We also have an assistant treasurer Nadira Ijaz who has a child in Pre-K and 2nd grade. It is her first year in the PTA also. She speaks Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and English.  Our recording secretary is Sherry Padilla who has 3 kids in PS62; her youngest is in Kindergarten, middle child in 3rd grade and eldest in 4th grade.  She has been an active volunteer for 2 years.  And we have Balijinder Kaur who is our corresponding secretary has been with the PTA for 2 years.  She speaks Punjabi, Hindi and English and has 2 daughters in 1st grade and second grade.

We have an exciting year planned for PS62, with many events and fundraisers coming up.  Our first fundraiser will be a new and improved Candy Sale.  We have partnered with Great American Opportunities.  We are very excited about our first fundraiser.  Proceeds to our candy sale will go towards our goal which is to raise enough funds to help the teachers with books and supplies for the classrooms and to help the school with their ever growing technology department.  This year’s candy sale also offers a tuition rewards and great prizes for the highest sellers.

We ask that all family donate a minimum of $10 so that the PTA can start off the year right.  All donations will help us to start the year right.

Some of the fundraisers and events we are planning are:

            *   Movie Night

             *  Halloween Dance

             *  Christmas Boutique

             *   Valentines Boutique

              *  Carnival

And many more

We ask that if parents have the time to please come to our PTA meetings. They will be held on the second Wednesday of every month.  8am in the cafeteria. They are very informative and parents that attend get some inside information on the goings on in and around the school.  We are always looking for volunteers so please feel free to speak to any of the PTA members or Ms. Fountain about signing up to volunteer.  We are always in need of creative and outgoing people to work with us.  It’s a big school and the more the merrier.

Thank you and we look forward to meeting more parents at the next meeting on Wednesday October 5th at 8am in the school cafeteria.  As always there will be refreshments and a raffle at the end of the meeting.

Thank You,

Susan Reardon
