ENL - English as a New Language

At PS 62 we have approximately 200 students across grades K-5 who receive ENL (English as a New Language) Services.  We have a wonderful team of three teachers who provide this instruction in two settings – Stand-alone (pulling out to work in small groups) and Integrated (team teaching with the classroom teacher). The ENL team works very closely with the classroom teachers to incorporate the curriculum and the Units of Study to better support all ENL students.

The ENL team uses many different forms of technology to engage and help students grow cognitively. Ipads are used for coding activities such as; Kodable, Foos, Dash and Dot etc. Each teacher has a Maker Space so as to better help ENL students with skills such as; sequencing, problem solving, directional concepts, counting etc. Interactive lessons using Promethean and Smart exchange are used to support visual and kinesthetic learners. The ENL team also uses a program called Moby max.  Mobymax enables students to become better problem solvers and critical thinkers by bridging learning from school to home.
