ENL - English as a New Language

At PS 62 we have approximately 150 students across grades K-5 who receive ENL (English as a New Language) Services.  We have a wonderful team of three teachers and a paraprofessional who provide this instruction in two settings - in the classroom and in an ELL Classroom with a smaller group.  We also have an afterschool program on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 5:00 for students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 who need additional help.

Meet the ENL Team
Merwyn Viegas works with our kindergarten and 1st grade students.  He speaks several languages including Punjabi and is dual certified in general and special education as well as TESOL.  Merwyn uses a variety of strategies including a multi-sensory phonics program and lots of technology tools to meet the needs of his learners.  He meets regularly with parents and provides workshops so that they are well informed about their children's learning.  Most of our approximately 50 ELL's in kindergarten tested out at the end of the year on the NYSITELL test.

Malgorzata Rogos works with 1st and 2nd grade students both in their classrooms and in her ENL classroom which is set up with all the supports her students need. Ms. Rogos is also bilingual and certified as a music teacher. She uses a variety of strategies to motivate her students.

Dalia Delgavi speaks several languages including Spanish and Farsi.  She works with students in grades 3, 4 and 5 both in the classroom and in her ELL classroom where you will find a multitude of supports including games, puppets and technology tools all set up to scaffold learning.

Shalini Dahl is a paraprofessional who is certified as a teacher in mathematics.  She speaks several languages including Punjabi and Hindi.  She works with groups of students in different grades in the classroom.  She is well loved in the community by students and their families.
