The Academy

The Academy—a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education—is a fellowship program in its fourth year at PS 62.
The program reflects the belief that today's artists require both the ability to perform at the highest level and the capacity to give back to the community, inspiring the next generation of quality musicians and music lovers.

Outstanding young professional musicians are matched with NYC partner schools, working alongside a partner music teacher, to bring mastery of their instruments, talent, and a unique performer’s perspective into a K-12 classroom. Ms. Emily Popham Gillins, a violinist and fellow from the Academy has been assigned this year to PS 62.  She has come to inspire our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are studying strings, i.e violin, viola or cello. Each Academy fellow also bring high quality performances to their school audience.  Our students also get to see concerts both at school and at Carnegie Hall.  Emily will perform at school concerts for parents as well.
