The dance program at P.S. 62 is aligned with the NYCDOE curriculum document: Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. From kindergarten to fifth grade, students learn about levels, directions, pathways, use of energy, spatial relationships, body shapes, body actions and so on.  Each class begins with a warm up that incorporates a variety of exercises that work on developing strength and flexibility. In the early grades, students practice creative movement and develop motor skills that can later be used in all genres of dance.  As the students progress into the upper grades they focus on specific styles of dance and explore a variety of ways to create and manipulate their own movement. Students frequently collaborate with others in creating dances that they can share with their peers and or/the rest of the student body.
